Larsoa Buy Bicycle Safety Gear Online LARSOA is a national road safety organisation that represents Road Safety Officers (RSOs) employed in local government across the UK. It supports RSOs in fulfilling their statutory role - to reduce the number and severity of road accidents through education, training and publicity policies and programmes. LARSOA seeks to influence national debate - government policy and action, and public opinion - and works with other organisations to achieve common goals. http://www.larsoa.org.uk/rso_contact.htm - road safety teams Visibility bags handed out to keep kids safe Stunt rider promotes cycle helmets Don't dream and drive, campaign says Warwickshire Fire & Rescue Service and the County Council's Road Safety Unit have developed an initiative to encourage local drivers to focus on the road. A series of posters have appeared across Stratford to remind motorists to concentrate on driving as soon as they get into their car rather than dreaming about other things. "We've all let our minds wander at some time while driving, but it is vital that we get into driving mode as soon as we sit in the driving seat," said Stan Milewski, senior road safety officer. "Even if travelling short distances, drivers still need to be aware - taking extra care at junctions, checking their blind spots for cyclists and motorcycles and keeping to speed limits."
Killing with carelessness .. the
government is committed to encouraging cycling but ... there is something
odd about encouraging children over 10 to ride their bikes in the road
when that is where they are most vulnerable ... there are huge gains
to be made in terms of understanding road safety ... if they've
been on a proper cycling proficiency course, wear a helmet and have
the right attitude in that they're aware of where the dangers lie’.
... cyclists must be able to give out
the right messages to drivers, and be able to mentally step out from their own
body in order to understand how a driver sees them ... this is a tall
order for any child, particularly when so many adult drivers seem incapable of
extending the same courtesy to pedestrians’.
